Killing of Bangroo, Saddam Padder and Naveed Jatt the Biggest Success of 2018, Say officials

January 03 Government forces achieved major success in Jammu Kashmir in 2018 as they eliminated top militant commanders including Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Naveed Jatt and also 260 ultras but nearly 100 soldiers had to lay down their lives in the line of duty. The number of militants killed in 2018 was around 260 which is higher than 2017 and the highest in a single year in the last eight years, officials said. At least 1700 Militants have been killed in Kashmir since 2010, In 2010, as many as 270 militants were killed in action by government forces in Jammu Kashmir. The number reduced to 119 in 2011. Highway Connecting Jammu with Srinagar Reopened for Traffic

January 03 The National highway connection Jammu with Srinagar has been reopened for traffic after remaining closed for more than a day post fresh snowfall at various places on the National Highway. Officials in the traffic department told The Kashmiriyat that the vehicular movement has been restored on the highway and at least five hundred vehicles stranded on the highway will be allowed to move to Kashmir initially. "By tomorrow, we expect to restore the highway for traffic for a single way movement, " he said. January 03 Three Militants have been killed in a fierce encounter that started Thursday morning between Government Forces and Local Militants in Gulshanpora area of Tral. An official speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that a group of Militants hiding in the area opened fire upon a joint party of Government Forces in the area which resulted in an encounter. Earlier, he said, forces had, based on a credible input about Militant movement in the area, launched a cordon and search operation in the area. January 03 An Army man was killed and another injured after an avalanche hit an army post in Sawjian sector of Poonch district in Jammu Kashmir on Thursday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a camp of Indian Army's 40 RR came under an avalanche on Thursday morning at KK Galki area in Sawjian sector along the line of control that divides Kashir between India and Pakistan. In the avalanche, one Indian Soldier was killed while another one was grievously injured. The deceased Army man was identified Lance Naik Sapan Mehra of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.

January 03 At least a dozen persons were injured during intense clashes that began in Tral area in South Kashmir's Pulwama District on Thursday. The youth in large numbers along with women and old men hit the streets after the news of the encounter spread in the area.
