Drug Peddler Arrested in Awantipora

January 22 Skinder Gull The Jammu Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Awantipora area of South Kashmir. A police official told The Kashmiriyat that a police party of Police Post Reshipora headed by DO Reshipora Abdul Rehman  intercepted a person  during checking. During  naka checking at Panzgam, 72 bottles of Codeine phosphate were recovered from a bag, which he was carrying. He has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar a resident of Dogripora in Pulwama. Case registered, investigation taken up.

Srinagar Boy Critically Injured After CRPF Trooper Allegedly Hit him with a Brick

January 22 Firdous Qadri Locals of Habba Kaddal staged a protest in downtown Srinagar after a local youth was hit by a stone thrown by a CRPF personnel. The family of Younis Bashir said that a CRPF man hurled a brick at Younis while he was on way to buy vegetables. He was critically injured and shifted rushed to SMHS hospital for treatment. A CRPF official said that a group of five to six youth pelted stones at the bunker near Habba Kadal. "While they were being chased away, a youth slipped and fell down," he added.

Protect the Grave of Yusuf Shah e Chak- Omar Urges Bihar Government

January 22 Former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Omar Abdullah has urged the Bihar Government to protect the the burial ground of Yusuf Shah Chak, the last independent king of Kashmir. Omar tweeted, “I request @NitishKumar ji to protect this part of Kashmir’s history that lies far from the valley in Bihar.” National Conference vice president was reacting to a report titled “Forgotten in a field far away: Grave of an exiled Kashmiri king lies in ruins in Bihar” published by The Hindu. Shopian Encounter Ends- Hideout Busted, Three Militants Killed, Clashes Continue

January 22 The encounter in Shermal orchards at South Kashmir's Shopian has ended now and the operation has been called off. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the encounter has ended with the killing of three militants and injuries to one army personnel, also militant hideout has been busted in the orchards. The dead bodies have been recovered, one of them has been identified as Shams of nearby Dragad area. Militants Attack Army’s Patrollling party in Pulwama

January 22 Militants on Tuesday noon attacked a patrol of Indian Army in South Kashmir's Pulwama District, Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday noon, Militants attacked a patrol of 55 RR in Gundipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District. As per initial reports nobody has been injured in the attack. A Cordon and Search operation has been launched in the area to nab the attackers. However an Official denied any attack having happened and said that Army fired a few aerial shots after coming under immense stone throwing near Pahoo area of Pulwama.

January 22 Shams ul Haq Mengnoo is likely one of the three slain Militants in Shermal encounter that raged early morning on Tuesday. When the younger brother of an IPS officer went missing at the end of May last year, it was feared that he could have joined a Militant group. This was confirmed a few days later that Shams-Ul-Haq Mengnoo is now a part of militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. Shopian Encounter- 15 Including Six journalists Injured During Clashes

January 22 At least fifteen people including six photojournalists were injured as forces fired pellets on people near Shermal Encounter site in Shopian district. A Photographer while speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the forces fired pellets at them as they were covering the street protests in Heff area. In the action of forces, six journalists identified as Nisar ul Haq, Kyser Mir, Aijaz Rashid, Junaid Gulzar, Mir Burhan and Waseem Andrabi sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile Forces fired pellets and bullets to disperse the protesters trying to march towards the encounter site. January 22 Amid Snowfall, Unscheduled power cuts in various areas of the Shangus area in South Kashmir's Islamabad (anantnag) District have evoked strong resentment among consumers. Residents of Brari Angan Utersoo told The Kashmiriyat that Area is reeling under darkness from past several weeks. “We hardly receive power supply for three to four hours in a day.
