February 06 The former Chief Justice Markandey Katju in an address has said that Lord Ram is not a God. Katju also objected to the cow being called as ‘mother’. Addressing a program in Dehradun, Markandey Katju said that Ram was not a God but an ordinary man. “Those who call the cow as mother, have heads filled of dung," Katju said while expressing objections to the cow as mother, adding that cow is also an animal like a horse and a dog. Lashkar e Taiba District Commander, Irfan Killed in Pulwama Encounter

February 06 A Local Militant has been killed in a brief encounter between militants and Government forces at Chakoora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 55 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by Militants during a cordon and search operation in the area. ALSO READ: Encounter Starts in Pulwama Area The Militant has been identified as Irfan Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Chakoora in Pulwama. Active since the last year, Irfan was the district commander of Lashkar e Taiba. Meanwhile mobile internet services have been snapped in this South Kashmir district.

February 06 Intense Clashes have erupted between protesters and government forces erupted in Chakoora area of Rajpora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district where a gunfight between militants and forces is underway. A Local told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday hundreds of protesters including women assembled and pelted stones on forces who responded to intense tear smoke shelling. Encounter Starts in Pulwama Area

February 06 An Encounter started between militants and Government forces at Chakoora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 55 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by Militants during a cordon and search operation in the area. Immediately the troops cordoned off the area and the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per initial reports available to The Kashmiriyat two to three militants are trapped in a residential house in the area. A heavy exchange of fire was going on when this report being filed.

Demanding Release of Political Prisoners, Yasin Malik Arrested in Srinagar

February 06 The chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik led a protest rally in Srinagar demanding “immediate release of political prisoners”. Scores of pro Freedom activists led by Malik assembled at Abi Guzar in Srinagar and chanted pro Freedom slogans and demanded the release of political prisoners. He urged the united nation human rights commission to ask India for the release of all political prisoners. The protesters later tried to march towards Lal Chowk after which police detained Yasin Malik and other activists and shifted them to Kothi Bagh police station.

12 Injured as Boulder Hits a Vehicle on Srinagar- Jammu Highway

February 06 At least 12 passengers, including a woman, were injured after their vehicle was hit by a boulder along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, which had to be eventually closed for traffic on Wednesday following fresh snowfall and incessant rains, officials said. The Jammu-bound vehicle was hit by a shooting stone from a hillock overlooking the highway at Moumpassi-Ramsu in Ramban district late Tuesday evening, causing serious injuries to the woman, who is from Bihar, and minor injuries to 11 others, they said. Most of the injured were discharged after first aid, while the woman who has suffered head injuries, has been referred to the Government Medical College hospital Jammu, they said. Three Army Soldiers In Rifleman Auranzeb’s Killing Case

February 06 The Government Forces have detained three Army men for their role in the killing of slain soldier Aurangzeb in June last year. The three soldiers are being questioned, a report by Indian Express. Tawseef Ahmad, one of the three soldiers detained, was taken to hospital with multiple injuries after being assaulted, allegedly by RR personnel. He was hospitalized and later shifted to Srinagar for treatment. Tawseef was spotted by locals and was later rushed to the hospital. On June 14 last year, Aurangzeb was seen in a short video in a forest answering questions on his duties, postings and operations. Hours later, his dead body was recovered in Pulwama.

Burglars Loot Ten Houses in a Single Night at Larkipora
