Militants Escape After Brief Exchange of Fire in Shopian- Search OPs Continue

March 20 At least four Militants on Wednesday managed to escape during a cordon and Search operation launched in the orchards of Heff Shermal area in Zainapora area of South Kashmir's Shopian district. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that 44 RR of Indian Army, 23 PARA, 14 BN of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the orchards of Heff and Shermal areas following an input about Militant movement in the area. OGW Escapes from Police Custody at Srinagar Court

March 19 An Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants fled from Srinagar court on Tuesday afternoon. The OGW was brought from sub jail Mattan to Srinagar court for judicial remand where he managed to escape. Identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Rah of Qaimoh Kulgam, sources said, he escaped from court permises here in Srinagar. A police officer confirmed the incident and said that a manhunt has been launched to nab the fleeing OGW.

March 19 In one of the rare occasions, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday awarded Shaurya Chakra to 16-year-old Irfan Ramzan Sheikh of Imam Sahib in Shopian for fighting militants who attacked his residence in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. Shaurya Chakra is usually awarded to armed forces and para-military personnel for "gallantry otherwise in the face of the enemy". March 19 Sheikh Nadeem A Man was crushed to death by a train near a railway track on Tuesday morning in Qazigund area of South Kashmir. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that 60-year-old man identified as Ghulam Nabi Bhat, was mowed to death by a train on Tuesday in Qazigund area of south Kashmir. The deceased was a resident of Churat area in Qazigund. A Police official confirming the incident to The Kashmiriyat said that they have registered a investigation in the case.
