Locals Clash With Indian Army in Mir Bazar of South Kashmir

March 03 Massive clashes have erupted in Mir Bazar area of South Kashmir's Islamabad (anantnag) district on Sunday morning after a verbal brawl between a Local and Army men. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday morning Army men thrashed a youth in the Malpora area of Mir Bazar without any provocation which resulted in a verbal brawl between the Army men and Locals. However, more Army men rushed to the spot and started thrashing the locals, and also scattered the goods of nearby shopkeepers. I was Not Physically Tortured in Pakistan, Says IAF Pilot Abhinandan

March 02 IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who crossed over to India through the Attari-Wagah border after spending nearly 60 hours in Pakistan captivity, has reportedly said he wasn't physically tortured in custody, there was mental harassment. Abhinandan Varthaman arrived in the national capital by an IAF flight around 11:45pm on Friday, nearly two-and-half hours after he crossed over to India through the Attari-Wagah border. He was captured by Pakistani authorities on February 27 after his MiG 21 Bison went down during a dogfight with Pakistani jets. Before his plane was hit, Varthaman shot down an F-16 of Pakistan air force.

Militants Attack Army Camp in Shopian, Police Deny

March 02 Suspected Militants on Saturday fired gunshots towards a camp of Indian Army in Dachoo area of Nagbal in South Kashmir's Shopian District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that suspected Militants on Saturday evening fired gunshots towards a camp of 44 RR of Indian Army  in Dachoo area of Shopian. The troopers fired in retaliation forcing the attackers to run away from the spot. Police officials however denied the reports and said that forces opened fire after observing suspicious movement around the camp.

As Border Shelling Heightens, 400 Additional Bunkers Sanctioned for Poonch, Rajouri

March 02 In view of the heightened cross-border shelling, the Government has sanctioned additional 400 individual bunkers for Poonch and Rajouri districts with 200 additional bunkers for each district. The Government has directed that to ensure speedy construction of these bunkers, funds would be placed with the DCs through the Rural Development Department. The bunkers would get built in the next one month as per the prescribed specifications. According to locals, the bunkers have been found to be an effective response to cross-border shelling, providing border residents a safe place to shelter themselves during shelling incidents.

March 02 A militant presumed dead sprang to his feet from the debris of a house and fired indiscriminately at security forces in the border district of Kupwara in Kashmir on Friday, killing two CRPF personnel and two policemen. Kashmir Highway Blocked Yet Again After Fresh Landslides

March 02 Following landslides at various spots and fresh snowfall at Jawahar Tunnel, authorities shut the highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar on Saturday, Officials told The Kashmiriyat that vehicular movement has been barred on the highway as snow has accumulated at the Jawahar Tunnel. They said that there have been landslides also in Ramban and Ramsoo areas falling on the highway. "No vehicular movement will be allowed on the highway till the snow and debris of landslides are cleared," they said.
