Polling Staff Reaches Kulgam’s Ashmuji to Set-up Polling Booth- Intense Clashes Erupt

April 26 Intense clashes erupted in Ashmuji area of Quimoh in South Kashmir's Kulgam District on Friday evening as the Polling officials reached the area to set up a polling booth in the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of youth shouting pro independence and Anti India Slogans attacked the polling party which included CRPF and Army men as well with stones asking them to go back from the area. Earlier similar incidents were reported from Muran area of Pulwama and Gagren area of Shopian, where Army resorted to Aerial firing to disperse the protesters. Pellets Rained on 11-Year old Boy in Kashmir’s Islamabad (anantnag) Township- Shifted to Srinagar for Treatment

April 26 The Government Forces on Friday evening resorted to pellet firing on protesters in the Islamabad (Anantnag) township of South Kashmir, injuring an 11 year old boy. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that during a minor stone throwing incident near the Deputy commissioner's office in the township, the CRPF men deployed inside the DCs office fired innumerable pellets on the protesters. During the pellet firing, one kid identified as Muzammil Ahmed Darzi (11), a resident of Qazi Mohalla in the Islamabad (anantnag) township, who is a student of class 5 was ht with pellets in his abdominal area. Militants Attack Police Station in Srinagar

April 26 Suspected Militants on Friday evening attacked a Police Station in Kashmir's Summer Capital Srinagar. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday evening Militants fired upon Police station in Srinagar's Chanapora area, injuring one Policeman critically. The Policeman has been shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment, a Police official told The Kashmiriyat. He said that Police have launched a search operation in the area to nab the attackers.

Five Gamblers Arrested in Bandipora

April 15 Jammu Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested five gamblers and recovered stake money from them in north Kashmir district of Bandipora. A police official said that following specific information, a police team raided a gambling site at Sumbal in Bandipora. "During the raid, police apprehended five people, while they were gambling," they added.

At Least 73000 Transgenders Arrested for Extorting Money From Railway Passengers

April 25 More than 73,000 transgenders have been arrested for extorting money from railway passengers in the past four years, with over 20,000 alone last year, the railway ministry has said in a reply to an RTI query. The data assumes significance as passengers have complained of harassment by transgenders who often board trains and extort money from them. Some of these passengers also had to face abuses, in the worst cases of physical assault, incase they refused to give in to such demands, officials said. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been regularly conducting special drives to check such instances, they said.
