Hailstorm Damages Apple Orchards In Kulgam

May 01 Umaisar Ganie Hailstorm on Wednesday damaged several areas of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that heavy hailstorm in second half of day caused heavy damage to apple orchards and vegetable fields. As per news reports, the affected areas include Magzam, KB Pora, Mirwani, Gandwani, Nihama, Harwath, Jaibal, Hallan, Tangmarg and many other areas. We request government to assess the loss and compensate us accordingly,” a group of affected farmers said.

School Timings Changed in Srinagar Yet Again

May 01 The directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) has modified its previous order issued regarding the timing of schools within the Municipal limits of Srinagar city. As per the new order, the schools within Srinagar Municipal limits will continue to function from 9am to 3pm. "The order shall be adhered to strictly by all concerned institutions," reads the DSEK order. Earlier, the DSEK had fixed the school timing from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm for schools within Srinagar Municipal limits. The order which came into effect today evoked public outcry forcing the department to revise the school timing.

CASO Launched in Baramulla’s Kunzar Area

April 30 Government forces on Wednesday afternoon launched a Cordon and Search Operation at Krishama area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. Reports said that a joint team of 2 RR, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operational Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police personnel cordoned off the Krishma area. Searches were going on when the last reports came in.

15 Commandos killed as Naxals Trigger IED blast in Maharashtra

May 01 In a major attack, At least 15 commandos were killed in an IED blast in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Wednesday. India Today reported that the Naxals triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) to blow up the police vehicle on Wednesday noon on in Gadchiroli when a team of the C-60 commandos, an anti-Naxal unit, was patrolling the area. The vehicle was carrying 16 security personnel from the Kurkheda Quick Response Team of Gadchiroli police.
