DGP J&K Holds High-level Security Review Meeting Ahead of Eid and Independence Day

A high-level security review meeting was held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) Srinagar today under the chairmanship of Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh in which overall security scenario particularly security arrangements with regard to EID, and Independence Day were discussed. Markets Abuzz with Activity in Kashmir Ahead of Eid ul Adha

Markets remained abuzz for the second day on Thursday with Eid-ul-Adha shoppers in the Kashmir valley, including the summer capital, Srinagar. However, the prices of essentials, including goats and sheep for quarbani (sacrifice) besides meat, remained high. Public transport remained off the roads and all shrines and mosques remained closed. Private vehicles were seen plying in large numbers on the roads, causing traffic jams at several places.

Amid Corona only 10,000 Saudi Residents to Perform Annual Hajj

To prevent contagion of coronavirus the Saudi government this year decided to begin the annual Hajj pilgrimage in the holy city of Mecca with mask-clad Saudi residents only. Every year more than 2 million Muslims from every part of the world perform Hajj. However, due to the pandemic, the Saudi government cut short the annual participation of people to 10,000 Saudi residents for a five-day pilgrimage. “There are no security related concerns in this pilgrimage, but downsizing is to protect pilgrims from danger of pandemic”, said Saudi Arabia’s director of public security Khalid bin Qarar Al-Harbi. United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) on Wednesday reported that approximately half of all the cases of violence faced by African migrants crossing to the Mediterranean coast are committed by law enforcers. “In 47% of the cases, the victims reported the perpetrators of violence are law enforcement authorities, whereas, in the past, we believe that it was mainly smugglers and traffickers,” UNHCR special envoy for the central Mediterranean, Vincent Cochetel, said during a news conference in Geneva. Police on Thursday found an unidentified semi-decomposed body of a woman in Thandi Chawon area of Dooligam Banihal in Ramban district. Sources said that a police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Banihal Abid Bukhari rushed to the spot and recovered the corpse. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a team of NIA carried the raids in Khanday Pora in Awantipora area and searched the house of the man, Hilal Ahmad Wagay who is a truck driver. Hilal had been attested in April this year in Punjab with Rs 29 lakh cash. The case was taken over by the NIA.
