Police Uses Tear Gas Shelling on Muharram Procession for Second Consecutive Day

Mir Junaid Police on Thursday lobbed tear smoke shells on Kashmiri mourners in Srinagar District for foul Muharram processions, Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that several hundreds of people on Thursday afternoon took out a Muharram procession from Hassanabad in Rainawari area of the district to commermorate the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of the last Messenger of the Allah, Imam e Hussain (a.s). Basit Shah / Shah Rayees Traffic on Thursday was temporarily suspended on a stretch of 434 km long Srinagar - Leh Highway as a precautionary measure following heavy rainfall in the area. Deputy SP Traffic, Faheem Ali told  The Kashmiriyat  that the 434 km long Srinagar - Leh Highway was temporarily closed on Thursday afternoon as a precautionary measure due apprehensions of due to landslides in certain areas heavy rains along the highway at Zojila pass. He said that all types of vehicular movement on the highway was put on a halt from Sonmarg towards Drass. Traffic will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the BRO and traffic police officials posted in Sonmarg, Jammu Kashmir.

1370 Kashmir-Bound Trucks, Private Vehicles Stuck on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Sheikh Nadeem At least, 1370 trucks bound to Kashmir are stranded in Jammu, Samba and Udhampur districts from the past three days due to closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in view of the heavy rainfalls. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that private vehicles in large numbers on way to Kashmir from jammu have been stopped as the rainfall has trigerred heavy landslides on the Srinagar- Jammu highway. Officials said that 800 trucks have been stranded after the Jammu-Srinagar highway closed due to inclement weather conditions and landslides and the Rest of the trucks have been blocked in the other places on the highway. Meanwhile the Jammu Kashmir region has been under a spell of rainfall for more than 24 hours now, which has triggered landslides at several places.
