Basit Shah / Shah Rayees Traffic on Thursday was temporarily suspended on a stretch of 434 km long Srinagar - Leh Highway as a precautionary measure following heavy rainfall in the area. Deputy SP Traffic, Faheem Ali told  The Kashmiriyat  that the 434 km long Srinagar - Leh Highway was temporarily closed on Thursday afternoon as a precautionary measure due apprehensions of due to landslides in certain areas heavy rains along the highway at Zojila pass. He said that all types of vehicular movement on the highway was put on a halt from Sonmarg towards Drass. Traffic will be resumed only after receiving green signal from the BRO and traffic police officials posted in Sonmarg, Jammu Kashmir.

Several activists of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders were detained by police in Srinagar for protesting against “detention of political prisoners, harassment of youth and media gag in the region.” On its official Twitter handle PDP party said, Police stops peaceful protest of @jkpdp leaders against the detention of political prisoners, the harassment of youth, the gag on media & rights violations.
