Man killed, Another Injured After Being Hit by Army Vehicle in Srinagar

A man was killed while another sustained severe injuries on Wednesday afternoon after the scooty they were travelling on was hit by an Army vehicle in Batwara area of Srinagar. Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a 50-year-old man who was riding scooty bearing number JK01AD-0992 was hit by an army vehicle in Batwara area of Srinagar. The scooty rider died on the spot, while another person was injured, however, the Army vehicle has managed to fled from the spot, witnesses said. The injured man has been identified as Abdul Hameed Mir son of Maqsood Ahmad resident of Zewan and has been shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be stable, official added. Two Militants Killed in Brief Exchange of Gunfire in Shopian

Mir Irfan Two Militants have been killed in the ongoing encounter broke out between militants and Government forces in Chakoora area of Harmain belt in South Kashmir's Shopian district. Earlier, An official told The Kashmiriyat that a joint team of Indian Army's 34 RR CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police on Wednesday launched a cordon and search operation on tip off about the movement of militants in this Shopian area. He said that as the joint teams of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. During the exchange of gunfire, two Militants have been killed, who are yet to be identified. The Government Forces are still conducting searches at the site of the encounter, Sources told The Kashmiriyat.

‘We are trying our Best to Keep Youth Away from Militancy’, Says Army

The Indian Army has said that it is trying its best to rescue youth and keep them away from joining Militant ranks in Kashmir. Saudi Arabia failed in its attempt to become a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the next three-year, while China, Russia and Cuba were elected on Tuesday in a vote that caused an outcry among human rights defenders. Russia and Cuba ran unopposed in the UN General Assembly election. Saudi Arabia and China vied for membership in a five-nation race for four spots with Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Nepal. Pakistan received 169 votes, Uzbekistan 164, Nepal 150, China 139 and Saudi Arabia 90 votes – ending Riyadh’s attempt to again be a member of the UN’s top human rights body. SPO Goes Missing with Two AK-47 Rifles in Budgam

A Special police officer (SPO) has fled along with two Ak-47 rifles and ammunition in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district. A Police official told news agency KDC that SPO identified as Altaf Hassan son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, posted at SOG Camp chadoora has gone missing along with two Ak-47 rifles and three magazines of Ak-47. "He has gone missing from the SOG camp on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday," he said.
