Massive Fire in Sopore Leaves Three Families Homeless

Shabir Khan Three houses were damaged in a devastating fire incident on Wednesday evening at Neharpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Locals from the Neharpora area told The Kashmiriyat that a massive fire broke out in the residential house of one Ghulam Nabi Shah, which later spread to two nearby houses. The nearby residential houses of Abdul Majeed Shah and Riyaz Ahmed Shah caught fire which spread from the first house. Three Families were rendered homeless as their houses turned into ash. They further stated that two more residential houses belonging to Ali Muhammad Shah and Bashir Ahmad Shah got partially damaged in the blaze. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that an inspection team visited the area to take a stock of the loss.

The Former chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir and president of People's Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that the PDP office in Srinagar was sealed for organizing a protest against the new land law in Jammu Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti claimed that PDP workers were also arrested on the behest of Jammu Kashmir administration on Thursday morning. Taking to her twitter, Mehbooba Mufti wrote, "PDP office in Srinagar sealed by J&K admin & workers arrested for organising a peaceful protest. A similar protest was allowed in Jammu so why was it thwarted here? NIA Continues Its Raids in Srinagar

In a continuation of raids, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday morning conducted fresh raids in Bagh- e- mehtab and Nowgam areas of Srinagar. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that NIA sleuths, along with Government Forces CRPF and police, raided the house of Hurriyat activists at Bagh-e-mehtab and Falah Aam Trust at Nowgam area of Srinagar district. The search was going on, when this report was being filed. Pertinenly, Raids were also conducted by NIA at many places in Srinagar on Wednesday morning at several locations across Srinagar.

Mir Irfan Sarjan Barkati, a popular reistance figure from South Kashmir's Shopian has been released from detention after four years. A family member of Barkati speaking to The Kashmiriyat confirmed that he has been released from detention from Police Station in Hurpora area of Shopian. Barkati who had become the face of the 2016 civilian uprising was arrested on October 01, 2016. The family member said that scores of people have gathered outside the house of Barkati in Reban Shopian to welcome his release. "He is on the way home from Hurpora Police Station," the family member told The Kashmiriyat over phone.

Accused arrested in TRP scam case says he was ‘paid by Republic TV, News Nation’: Mumbai police

One of the suspected who was arrested by Mumbai police in the TRP manipulation scam has confessed that he had been “accepting money” from a Mumbai based news organisations Republic TV and News Nation to “distribute among households” who were asked to “keep certain channels on”. In a statement issued by Mumbai police, a report by Times of India said that the accused identified as Abhishek Kolwade. He runs a marketing firm named Max Media and was the 10th person arrested in the case. “The tenth person arrested is a resident of Thane.
