Two Militants Killed in Shopian Encounter- Searches On

Mir Irfan Two Militants have been killed during the encounter that started early morning on Tuesday between militants and Government forces in Kutpora area of Shopian in South Kashmir. An official confirming the exchange of gunfire to The Kashmiriyat said that 34 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and 178 BN of CRPF had jointly laid a siege in Kutpora area of Shopian. He said that the cordon was laid after the forces had received a tip-off about Militant movements in the area. As soon as the forces launched the searches, the Militants opened fire on them to which the forces responded. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Shahzad Ahmed Wani, aged around 45, who is a resident of Shalipora area in Kulgam district of South Kashmir died during his lodgement in Mattan Jail in Anantnag. His body has been shifted to District hospital in Anantnag for medico- legal formalities.
