Forest Department Frees 120 Kanals of Encroached Land in Pahalgam

Salman Shah The Forest Department in a massive anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday freed over one-hundred twenty kanals of land here in the Lidroo forest area of Pahalgam in Islamabad (Anantnag) district in South Kashmir. An official who was a part of the anti-encroachment drive team speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that "A massive anti-encroachment drive was carried by the Forest Department under the supervision of Range Officer Pahalgam Haji Altaf alongside his staff on the directions of DFO Lidder in the local forest area." In a major concern, the unemployment rate has reached to 25 percent in Jammu Kashmir, which is double the national average. Jammu Kashmir has 65 percent population under the age of 35 years. Waris Shah Indian Army's 18 Rashtriya Rifles organised a rock climbing day-out to Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering (JIM), Pahalgam. A total of 20 children were a part of the trip. The children were introduced to various techniques and equipment at the institute. An Army official told The Kashmiriyat that it was an enthralling day filled with fun, laughter and adventure. The kids were extremely thrilled after spending an exciting day at the institute. Firdous Qadri On Tuesday, clouds of smoke were observed by the locals at multiple locations in the Lolab forest area of north Kashmir's frontier district. A massive fire broke out in the forest area. While talking to The Kashmiriyat, the locals from North Kashmir’s Warnow Affan told that they saw smoke billowing from the nearby forests. On visiting the location, locals witnessed a major part of the forest area including vegetation razed to ashes. Mir Irfan Massive stone throwing clashes erupted in Hermain area of South Kashmir Shopian district on Tuesday afternoon against a land acquisition drive by the administration in the area. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that an elderly man suffered cardiac arrest and died on spot in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Women and men in large numbers threw stones on a team of officials and the Locals who were on a land acquisition drive in Hermain village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. They said that the team led by Tehsildar Hermain, Block Development Officer Hermain had arrived in the area to take possession of the local land. An elderly man identified as Abdul Salam Thokar, a resident of Padderpora area in Shopian suffered a heart attack and died on spot.
