The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC), a civil society group, on Monday said that different views have been expressed regarding the High Court judgment over Roshi Act and said all the beneficiaries under the said act were labeled as encroachers which is not a fact .In a statement issued to the press, the GCC said, under the Roshni Act those of the occupants who were holding leases of the Nazool land for residential purposes under the J&K Land Grants Act,1960 were also made eligible to seek conversion of their leasehold rights into freehold. The BJP-led Centre is trying to destroy the cultural identity of Jammu Kashmir by “selling” land to outsiders, senior Congress leader and former deputy chief minister Tara Chand alleged on Monday. Forty-three civilians including 8 BJP workers, a kid, and a Block Development Chairman lost their lives in different violence-related incidents across Jammu Kashmir this year. The BJP workers who were gunned down by suspected militants include Waseem Bari, his brother Umar Sheikh and father Bashir Sheikh of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Abdul Hamid Najar of Ompora Budgam, Yuva Morcha General Secretary for Kulgam Fida Hussain and Umar Ramzan of YK Pora and Haroon Rashid Beigh of Sopat Kulgam.
