Sarjan Barkati, as per his family, has been arrested by the Police, from his house in the Reban area of Shopian district of South Kashmir late on Thursday evening. A family member of Brkati told The Kashmiriyat over the phone that the Forces barged into the house of Barkati in Reban and detained the religious cleric who was recently released after more than four years of detention. He said that Barkati has been arrested by the Police for reasons unknown. "We do not know why he has been picked up," the family member said. A Police official posted in Shopian however denied Barkati being arrested. "The reports are fake," he said.

The three families from South Kashmir, whose kins were killed in Lawaypora encounter on 30 December last year, Thursday demanded a special investigation team (SIT) probe into the killing. The three youth namely Athar Mushtaq resident of Bellow Pulwama, Aijaz Ahmad resident of Putrigam Pulwama and Zubair Ahmad lone were killed in an encounter at Lawaypora in the outskirts of Srinagar on 30 December.
