Russia Records First Case of H5N8 – Avian Flu in Humans

First case of transmission of the H5N8 strain of avian flu to humans was detected by Russian scientists and the authorities have alerted the World Health Organization. "Information about the world's first case of transmission of the avian flu (H5N8) to humans has already been sent to the World Health Organization," the head of Russia's health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said in televised remarks. The highly contagious strain is lethal for birds but has never before been reported to have spread to humans. School in Chennai gets Hit with Massive Controversy for Referring to Protesting Farmers as ‘Violent Maniacs’

On Saturday, a school in Chennai was roped in controversy after social media users drew attention to a question in an English Language and Literature paper in a revision exam on February 11th. The question paper referred to the farmer’s protest as 'violent maniacs' in relation with the Republic Day - Farmer's Protest in Delhi. Students of class 10th were asked to write a letter to the editor of a daily bulletin, condemning the violent act and were also asked to recommend measures to restrain 'violent maniacs' (referring to protesting farmers) who act under external instigation, according to the school. With an aim of providing equal education opportunities to the underprivileged students of the valley, Uplona Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under the aegis of Haiderbeg Army Camp conducted free tuition classes for the meritorious students from the adjoining villages of Tarzoo, Sopore. The two months long tuition classes were conducted at Government Middle School, Tarzoo, Sopore from 21st December of 2020 to 20th February of 2021. Families of Incarcerated Members of Student’s Islamic Movement of India Pens Letter to Organizations for Justice

The relatives of the 31 incarcerated members of the banned Student's Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), have written a letter to several Muslim organizations urging them to pay attention to the “inhuman and barbaric” treatment meted out to their kin allegedly by jail authorities. The letter mentions abuse of physical and mental kind, slapping of false cases, denying of medical facilities, threats and mistreatment of visitors. Among the 31 incarcerated Dr. Abu Faisal, Qamruddin , Kamran, Saduli PA and Shibily, have been on hunger strike in Central Jail Bhopal from last month , are surviving on saline water now. First Images of Mars taken by a Perseverance Rover was Released by NASA

Less than 24 hours after NASA’s science rover Perseverance landed on Mars, the United States space agency released a number of colourful images of the Red Planet.   The spacecraft has been equipped with a record 25 cameras and two microphones. Several of these cameras were turned on during the rover’s descent to the planet, thereby capturing striking images which show phenomenal details of the rover’s landing till about 2 meters off the ground. Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Friday accused the Indian government of adopting laws and policies that “systematically discriminate against Muslims and stigmatize critics of the government.” HRW’s report came days ahead 23rd of February, which marks the first anniversary of the violence in New Delhi, where 53 people were killed, 40 of them were Muslims. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that Hoshangabad will now be known as Narmadapuram.
