Locals from South Kashmir Monday accused Para-military troopers of forcibly trying to occupy land that they use for grazing animals. Locals from Bran village of Shangus Tehsil of Southern Anantnag district assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar and staged a protest against what they said ‘land grabbing’. The protesters said that without any consultation and taking locals into confidence, CRPF has initiated a process to occupy land comprising of 100 kanals. “It will prove disastrous for us. Journalist Siddique Kappan Bailed for 5 Days

On Monday, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan for five days to meet his ailing mother. The court said it will be the responsibility of the Uttar Pradesh Police to ensure his travel to and fro his mother’s house in Kerala. Kappan was arrested along with three others in October while he was on his way to cover the Hathras gangrape and murder case. The armies of India and Pakistan, on Monday afternoon exchanged gunfire along the line of control (LoC) in the Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district. Sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation and targeted the posts of the Indian army. "The fire was heavily and effectively retaliated by own troops," they said. They said that there were no immediate reports about injury or casualty.
