  At least 149 people have been killed in Myanmar since the 1 February coup, including five in custody, a UN human rights official has said, as mass funerals were held for dozens of those shot dead by security forces in recent days. The revised estimate of the death toll follows the bloodiest day in the six weeks since the military’s takeover, with 74 protesters killed on Sunday followed by 20 people the next day. Mass funerals were held across Yangon on Tuesday, with hundreds of mourners gathering in different townships to say goodbye to those killed. A crematorium in Yangon reported 31 funerals, a mourner at one of the ceremonies said.   On Wednesday, India marked it's 357th day since the government implemented a nationwide lockdown to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India recorded 28,903  new COVID-19 cases, registering more than 20,000 cases for the seventh day in a row, taking the infection tally past 1.14 crore, the Union health ministry said. The total cases in the country rose to 1,14,38,734,while the death toll increased to 1,59,044. The total active caseload has increased to 2,34,406. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,10,45,284. Globally, more than 12.03 crore people have been infected by the coronavirus and 27.88 lakh have died so far. Karnataka Waqf Board Bans Usage of Loudspeakers in Mosques from 10 PM to 6 AM

The Karnataka State Board of Auqaf has issued a circular dated March 9 to all the masjids and dargahs in the state, banning the use of loudspeakers between 10 pm and 6 am during Adhaan. The circular read “it is observed that increasing ambient noise level around many masjids and dargahs due to generator sets, loudspeakers and public address systems have deleterious effects on human health and the psychological well-being of the people. With the objective of maintaining the ambient standards of noise, “ Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 are in effect”. The area comprising not less than 100 meters around hospitals, educational institutions and courts have been declared as silence zone. Teenager Critically Wounded After Being hit by CRPF vehicle in Srinagar

A teenage boy was critically injured after being hit by a CRPF vehicle in the Saida Kadal area of Srinagar on Wednesday. A relative of the boy said that Safran Ahmad (16) son of Ghulam Mohammad Kathjoo, a resident of Naidyar was critically injured when he was hit by a CRPF vehicle at Saida Kadal. He said that he immediately rushed to SMHS hospital by the locals for treatment. "He is being operated upon at the hospital while his condition is said to be critical," he said. Hindi Being Implemented as the Official Language at NIT Srinagar

Hindi will now be implemented as the official language in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar in Jammu Kashmir. A team of the Central Higher education department visited the institute and sought details on the progress about the work being done in Hindi. During this, Suniti Sharma, who is leading the team, was told that a separate Hindi cell has been set up in the institute in Srinagar. The Department has been requested to appoint staff on behalf of the institute. Sharma said that the step of implementation of Hindi is being taken in the direction of implementing the official language across the country. Locals of Machil in Kupwara Protest Demanding Basic Facilities

Shabir Khan   On Tuesday, the locals of Machil sector of Kupwara gathered in unison demanding basic facilities for them. The locals were shouting slogans and said the area lacks basic facilities like electricity and water supply, due to which elderly people face a lot of problems. Habibullah, Sarpanch of Machil sector of Kupwara, said that there is a high school in Machil which lacks basic facilities, and only have six staff members, four among them are RTOs and two generalizers. On Tuesday, Border Security Force said that they shot dead an intruder on the International Border in Samba district of Jammu division. Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the intruder, who was trying to infiltrate from the IB in the Ramgarh area of Samba was shot dead today evening.
