Three local Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were in a gunfight in the Vailoo Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, police said. “Today at about 0400 hours, Police while acting on specific input regarding presence of three (militants) in a residential house at village Sheikhpora, Vailoo area of Kokernag, launched a joint cordon and search operation along with army’s 19RR and CRPF in the area,” a police spokesman said in a statement to GNS. “During the search operation, as the presence of (militants) got ascertained, they were given an opportunity to surrender. Sajad Hameed One youth was killed and another was injured in an accident in the Kunzer area of Baramulla on Tuesday morning. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a Maruti two persons were traveling in (JK01R-9304) collided with a tipper bearing the number JK03B 2973 near Wussan Kunzer area of Baramulla. The collision resulted in injuries to two persons while one of them succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was identified as Irshad Ahmed son of Farooq Ahmed Ahangar of Wahipora Tangmarg while the injured was identified as Maqsood Ahmed son of Ali Mohammed Ahanger. The official said that a case has been registered and the Police are looking out for the driver who fled the spot.

The Jammu Kashmir Police have registered FIR against 20 people who were found involved in raising “pro-freedom and provocative slogans” during the funeral of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai on May 6. A top police said that an FIR has been lodged against 20 people who were raising “pro-freedom and provocative slogans” while taking the body of Sehrai to Tekkipora-Sogam graveyard for burial at around 4 am on May 6.
