It has emerged from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, that a Sikh woman (24) has retracted her allegations against two Muslim brothers who had been booked under the anti-conversion law based on her complaint. The woman had earlier alleged that she was forced by a man from her neighborhood to marry him and revert towards his religion, although she retracted the claims on Tuesday. According to a report in the Indian Express, while recording her statement before a magistrate, the woman denied all of the allegations. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court after hearing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by filmmaker Kavitha Lankesh issued a notice to Karnataka Government and others. In the SLP, Kavitha has challenged a judgement of the Karnataka High Court quashing charges under Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act (KCOCA) against one of the accused, Mohan Nayak, in the Gauri Lankesh murder case, the news agency ANI reported. After the fresh firing resumed one more militant has been killed, taking toll to three in an ongoing encounter at Chimmer area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday. A senior Police Officer told GNS, that another militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter, however identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained. Earlier, during the first round of firefight two militants were killed, he added. Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Chimmer. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.(GNS)

After remaining suspended for more than seven week, train services are resuming partially in Kashmir Valley from Thursday, officials said. Official sources told that two pairs of trains shall operate between Budgam to Banihal in the morning and evening only. There shall be no services towards Baramulla, they said. “In the morning one pair (04617/04618) and in the evening session one pair (04619/04622) will run between Budgam –Banihal only as per their existing time table,” they said. On May 10, the authorities had suspended the services in view of the covid-19 situation in Kashmir Valley and as per the guidelines and SOPs issued by the government till May 16. Later it was extended from time to time till June 30.

Jammu Kashmir reported 364 fresh covid-19 cases while seven more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday. They said 149 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 215 from Kashmir Valley, taking the total count to 315662. Regarding the deaths, they said four were reported from Kashmir Valley and three from Jammu Division, taking the fatality count to 4323.
