Since ages, handicrafts have remained the backbone of Jammu Kashmir's economy however the vital industry is now under the threat of extinction due to Covid-19 and introduction of machines. Experts believe that a handicraft besides being the backbone of the economy also plays a pivotal role in the preservation of traditional art, heritage, culture, and skills of the region. Two persons were injured in two separate incidents of bear attacks in twin villages of the Kangan area here in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday. Reports said that 70-year-old Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh S/O Mohd Sediq Sheikh R/O Check Akhal was seriously injured by a bear near his house this afternoon. The Supreme Court was told on Tuesday that the Uttar Pradesh government has withdrawn 77 cases pertaining to the Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013, including for offences entailing a life sentence, without giving any reasons. A bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Surya Kant is scheduled to hear a plea filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay seeking speedy disposal of cases against lawmakers.
