Police on Monday booked a notorious drug peddler under Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Poshkreedi Sirigufwara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. A Police official told GNS that a drug peddler identified as Shabrooz Ahmad Wani son of Ab Rehman Wani of Poshkreedi Sirigufwara Anantnag has been booked under PSA. He has been booked under FIR No. 26/2021 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act in Police station Sirigufwara. Accused has been shifted to Kot Bhalwal Jail Jammu, the officer added. A Fast Track Court in Jammu on Monday convicted a man from Bhalwal for kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl in 2018. After convicting the man— Rakesh Kumar of Kaleri Bhalwal, the presiding officer of the court—Khalil Choudhary—has posted the matter with regard to the quantum of sentence tomorrow. As per the prosecution story, the girl (name withheld) was sleeping in her home and was found missing in the morning in April 2018. A hunt was laid by family members but all in vain. Body of an elderly man, head of the nomad family, who was killed along with four other members of the relation in a cloudburst in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, was found on Monday. Official sources told GNS that body of Mohammad Bashir Khari (80) of Nowshera Rajouri was found by a team of police and SDRF to wrap up the rescue operation which was launched soon after the calamity struck the nomad family putting up in a tent at Hamam Marcoot during the intervening night of September 11 and 12.
