Encounter Breaks out in Srinagar Area

Mehran Bhat  An encounter broke out on Friday evening between militants and Government forces  in the Natipora area of Srinagar District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that an encounter has started between militants and government forces including CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police in the Srinagar area. The encounter started after a cordon and search operation was launched in the area. Earlier Militants had attacked a police party in the area. More details awaited

Death toll from an explosion on Friday at a Shia mosque in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province rose to 60, the Russian News Agency reported. "The number of those killed in the blast in a Shia mosque in the Afghan northern province of Kunduz has risen to 60, and 107 more people sustained injuries," Sputnik reported citing the Al-Jazeera news. According to the publication, all the victims were reported to be at prayers in the mosque. Meanwhile, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast. Further details are awaited. (ANI)

CPI(M) Condemns Civilian Killing in Anantnag at the Hands of Forces

While strongly condemning the killing of a civilian at a check post in Monghal area of Anantnag last night, CPI(M) Secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik has asked the authorities to probe the incident thoroughly to fix the responsibility. In a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, CPI (M) said that the circumstances in which the civilian was shot dead by security forces needs to be probed. "Losing precious human lives is most unfortunate and mere condemnation of such incidents is not enough," the CPI (M) presser read. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, he demanded compensation to the victim's family.

A powerful explosion has targeted a mosque in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz and left several casualties, a senior Taliban official and witnesses said. The blast occurred during the weekly Friday prayer service at the Gozar-e-Sayed Abad Mosque when members of the Shia religious minority typically come in large numbers for worship. Witness Ali Reza said he was praying at the time of the explosion and reported seeing many casualties. Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Shia mosque was the target and that a “large number” of worshippers were killed and wounded. Suhail Dar/ Waris Shah One person has been shot dead by Government Force personnel in Monghal area in Anantnag in South Kashmir on Thursday Night. An Official told The Kashmiriyat that Force personnel from 40 Batallion of CRPF had laid a checking at Monghall Bridge on Thursday evening. "During the checking the forces at the checking (Nakka) tried to stop a Scorpio vehicle, however the vehicle did not stop, it jumped off the Nakka. Mir Junaid Suspected Militants hurled a grenade towards Government Forces in the Nawa Kadal area of Srinagar on Thursday night. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a bunker of 161 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force was attacked by suspected Militants in the Bari Pora area of Nawakadal with a grenade. They said that the grenade exploded  at some distance far from the bunker, adding, "No injuries have been reported from the incident as of yet." At least forty structures, many of which were mainly built of wood, were damaged in a massive blaze that broke in Parimpora area in city outskirts on Thursday afternoon. Talking over the incident, a Fire and Emergency official said that there were many wooden structures and some single storeyed houses in the area which got damaged in the fire mishap at Parimpora.
