20-year-young Boy from Srinagar Drowns to Death in Pahalgam

Suhail Dar A 20-year-old youth drowned to death in the river Lidder in Pahalgam area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a youth identified as Anees Ahmed Dar son of Gulzar Ahmed Dar, a resident of Srinagar's Eidgah area slipped and drowned in River Lidder in Pahalgam on Sunday afternoon. However, before the youth could be helped, he had died of his injuries in the river Lidder.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in Saharanpur has ordered a probe into the alleged custodial death of a 40-year-old farmer. The DIG has asked the Muzaffarnagar police to lead the investigation, following a request by the man’s cousin, Syed Isa Raza, a former minister, who said that the inquiry should not be handed to the Saharanpur police. The alleged incident took place on September 5 when the police had raided Thitki village after a tip-off on alleged cow slaughter. After the raid, police had informed Raza that his cousin, Mohd Zeeshan, had tried to escape and accidentally shot himself in his leg.
