199 Militants Active in Kashmir, 89 out of them Foreigners

The Government forces have said that there are currently about 199 militants active in the Kashmir Valley. The Central Reserve Police Force has said that out of these 199 Militants, 110 Militants are locals and 89 are foreigners. As of November 24 this year, 148 militants have been killed in encounters with Jammu Kashmir police and the army in the valley. Out of the slain Militants, 127 of them were locals and 21 were foreigners. There are about 65,000 CRPF personnel deployed in the valley, and an additional 25 CRPF companies have been deployed since the attack on civilians in the valley. A total of 11 CRPF personnel have been killed this year while fighting Militants, a CRPF official said.

On Thursday, a complete shutdown is being observed in the downtown area of Srinagar and in Pulwama township of south Kashmir against the killing of a local Militant, Mehran Shalla in an encounter in the Rambagh area of Srinagar on Wednesday evening. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that shops and other business establishments are shut, while traffic is majorly off the roads in the Srinagar's downtown area.
