JK Delimitation Commission To Share Progress With Associate Members On Dec 20

The Jammu Kashmir delimitation commission has called a meeting with its associate members on December 20 in New Delhi to share the progress made in the delimitation of the 90 Assembly constituencies in the Jammu Kashmir. The meeting has been called following an uproar by many politicians over the alleged uncertainty created by the Union Home Ministry’s remark in Parliament regarding the deadline for the commission to submit its recommendations. The commission is headed by Justice (Retired) Ranjana Prakash Desai and its term ends in March 2022 after which Assembly elections are to be held. Severe cold conditions continued in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Saturday as Srinagar had coldest night of the season with mercury plunging to minus 3.6°C. A meteorological department official here told GNS that the minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, was more than two degrees Celsius than the normal for this time of the year. Today’s minimum temperature surpassed that of yesterday (December 10) when the mercury fell to minus 2.6°C. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, had a low of minus 3.7°C against minus 2.4°C on the previous night, he said. The fire related incidents have seen the death of 230 people and property worth Rs 250 crore damaged in Kashmir since 2018, reveal official figures. Figures suggest that in 2018, the Fire and Emergency department Kashmir received 2790 fire calls. “The year 2018 saw deaths of 64 people in various fire related incidents while 11 persons sustained injuries. 1800 structures, 50 shopping complexes, 59 vehicles and 216 electric transformers were damaged in the year 2018,” the figures reveal, adding that “In year 2019, the department received 1841 calls while 45 persons lost lives and eight people were injured.
