Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Friday warned of higher rates of re-infections due to the new variant in persons who have recovered from Covid-19 infection. Two cases of Omicron variant has also been reported in India so far. Both cases are from Karnataka with mild symptoms, Union Health Ministry on Thursday said. The CBI has arrested three officials of Jammu and Kashmir's Public Works Department for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from a building contractor at Reasi in Udhampur, officials said on Friday. The agency took superintending engineer Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, technical officer PK Koul and junior engineer Sanjay Koul, all of PWD (R&B), Circle Udhampur-Reasi into custody followed by searches at their residence and office premises, they said. "The complainant said his firm was awarded tender for constructing a medical sub-centre in Reasi during 2017-18 and that he had executed a part of project. 181 fresh covid-19 cases, 33 of them travelers, were reported along with two deaths due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours, officials said on Friday. 56 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 125 from Kashmir, taking the overall tally to 331257. There were two deaths, both from Kashmir Valley, due to the virus during the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4479 persons—2185 in Jammu and 2294 in Kashmir—have died due to the virus, they said.
