The Education Department in Karnataka has suspended a teacher on charges of letting students perform namaz inside the school premises in Kolar district, sources said on Friday. S.M. Umadevi, in-charge head mistress of the Balechengappa Kannada Model Higher Primary School in Someshwarapalya, has been suspended by the Department of Public Instruction. “It is the duty of the teachers of government schools to inculcate a sense of national integration. Religious tolerance, practices and traditions must be there. However, by allowing students to perform namaz in one of the classrooms instils a divisive mindset,” the suspension order stated. SPO guarding Pandit family dies of cardiac arrest in Baramulla

A Special Police Officer (SPO), guarding a pandit family has died of a massive cardiac arrest in Budmulla Narvaw area north Kashmir’s Baramulla district . Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that SPO identified as Shakeel Ahmad Rather, son of Ali Mohmmad Rather of Malpora Narwaw passed away due to cardiac arrest. They said that the deceased was posted as security guard for pandit family at Budmulla Narvaw area of the district. The body of Nisar Ahmed Malla who along with his brother Hilal Ahmed Malla had drowned in the river Jhelum while extracting sand at Khawjabagh Baramulla in North Kashmir on Friday was retrieved on Saturday morning. Yesterday, the body of Hilal Ahmed was retrieved from the river while the body of his brother was still untraceable. Pertinently, two brothers from Bandipora had drowned after the capsizing of a sand-filled boat yesterday. After completing all the formalities, the police handed over the body to the family. (KNT)
