J&K Reports 4959 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, 7 Deaths

Jammu and Kashmir reported 4959 new covid-19 cases while seven persons died due to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday. They said 1394 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 3565 from Kashmir Valley, taking the total tally to 419731. The virus also claimed seven lives, one from Jammu division and 6 from Kashmir Valley, taking the fatality count to 4642. So far 2265 died due to the virus in Jammu and 2377 in the Valley. Meer Irfan A cordon and search operation was launched in the Ganzham area of south Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday afternoon, officials said. Earlier, militants had escaped from an encounter in the Check e Nowgam area of Shopian during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, where three Government Force personnel had been injured. Later on Thursday afternoon joint forces including 34 RR of Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu Kashmir Police in Ganzham Shopian- located next to Check e Nowgam. The operation was launched following inputs about the presence of militants in the area. "The entry and exit points of the area have been sealed and a search operation is going on," Sources said.

CRPF trooper dies of heart attack inside the camp

A trooper died of a heart attack while taking a morning walk inside the camp at Dhriti Dhorre area of Katra Jammu. Police sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a CRPF Constable part of the 6 Battalion was taking a morning walk inside the camp when he collapsed and fell unconscious. The trooper was taken to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The cause of the death as per doctors was a heart attack. Police sources identified the deceased trooper as Harbhajan Singh (38), a resident of Akhnoor Jammu. (KNT)

A residential building was damaged in a fire incident in Rajbagh area of Srinagar city. Locals told Kashmir News Trust that flames started emanating from the top floor of the building housing many offices this afternoon. They said that the owner had given the building on rent and many people including a newspaper editor were operating their offices from the said building. The said building located near Abdullah Bridge was damaged in the incident while a man sustained burn injuries and was shifted to hospital. Firefighters finally were managed to douse the fire.
