Ulfat Bashir/ Ishfaq Wagay The residents of the Beighpora in the Brari Angan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district staged a protest against the Water Department over the issue of non-availability of drinking water in the area. A group of residents assembled and staged a protest against the concerned PHE Department, demanding safe drinking water to the area. The Inhabitants speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that they are demanding clean drinking water for their survival as the area is facing an acute shortage of drinking water facilities since last year, adding that the department was forcing them to consume filthy water. Police on Saturday refuted rumours regarding grenade attacks at Maharaja Bazaar and Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar city. In statement issued to GNS, the police said that there is rumour doing rounds about some grenade attack in Srinagar today at Maharaja bazaar and Mehjoor Nagar. It is clarified that no such attack has taken place. The police spokesman further said that media fraternity is requested to kindly verify news before spreading it. Mehran Bhat An encounter has started between militants and Government forces at Naira area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. A Police official said that on Saturday afternoon RR of the Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about Militant presence in the area laid a cordon and search operation in the area. During the cordon, the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. All the entry and exit points of the area have been sealed by the Forces. As per initial reports available to The Kashmiriyat two to three militants were trapped in the area. Sources said that a massive exchange of fire is being heard at the site of the encounter.

Jammu Kashmir reported 4175 new positive cases while as five persons succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Saturday. They said 1363 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 2812 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 428260. Three among the fresh deaths were reported from Jammu division and two from Kashmir valley, the officials told GNS. So far 4652 people have died due to the virus—2271 in Jammu and 2381 in Kashmir Valley. Grenade attack on forces in Srinagar

Militants hurled a grenade on security personnel in the Maharaj Bazar area of the city here on Saturday, but there was no immediate report of any casualty, police said. At about 4:30 PM, militants lobbed the grenade targeting a team of CRPF and police personnel at Maharaja Bazar Chowk here, a police official said. He said no loss of life or injury in the explosion has been reported. The area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the attackers, the official said.–(PTI)

Danishwar Hameed Suspected militants on Saturday afternoon shot at a Police cop in Hassanpora area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a Policeman named Ali Mohammed Ganie, resident of Hassanpora bagh was shot by suspected militants near his house. The Policeman was shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment. "However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital," the official said. At GMC Anantnag, the doctor declared him brought dead. Meanwhile forces have rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the Hassanpora area to nab the attackers.
