An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Gasu near Shalimar area of Srinagar, Police said on Monday. On its official twitter handle, Jammu Kashmir Police said,"Another #encounter started at Gasu near Shalimar area of #Srinagar. Police and CRPF are on the job. Further details shall follow." Earlier, a top commander of Lashkar e Taiba, Saleem Parray, a resident of Hajin Bandipora area was killed during an encounter in the same area.

A top commander of Lashkar e Taiba, Mohammed Saleem Parray of Hajin Bandipora was killed during a shootout in Srinagar's Shalimar area on Monday afternoon, Police said. They said that Saleem Parrey was a wanted militant and was involved in multiple militancy-related incidents. Locals from the Shalimar area of Srinagar said that they heard a volley of shots that created panic in the area. Saleem who was from Hajin Bandipora, Once known as a hub of counter-insurgents including Kukka Parray, went missing on 22 October 2017. Saleem, (then 23)was among the first to join militants from the North Kashmir township after the town being a hub of counterinsurgents for several years. The Jammu Kashmir Police on Monday claimed that one militant was killed in a brief shootout in the Harwan area of  Srinagar.
