‘Unjust’ road widening triggers protest; ‘Will lose paddy fields and income,’ say Kulgad residents

The residents of the Kulgad area in Achabal on Friday staged a protest against the "unjust" road widening in their area. In 2007, the cabinet of the former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad approved the expansion of the vital road that connects Anantnag town to the Kishtwar. Approval was granted for the widening to be made for which the concerned officials marked 50ft from one side of the erstwhile road and 50ft from the other. The Locals alleged that after 2013, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Nisar Ahmad Wani and ACR Ghulam Ahmad Dar forced us to curve on every mark. JK Reports 4354 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, 5 Deaths

Jammu Kashmir reported decline in covid-19 cases for the third day in a row with 4354 fresh infections confirmed in the last 24 hours while as five persons succumbed to the virus during the time, officials said on Friday. They said, 1440 of the cases were confirmed from Jammu Division and 2914 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 424085. Giving district wise, the officials told GNS, Srinagar 916, Baramulla 290, Budgam 229, Pulwama 90, Kupwara 618, Anantnag 329, Bandipora 109, Ganderbal 42, Kulgam 262, Shopian 29, Jammu 763, Udhampur 111, Rajouri 43, Doda 103, Kathua 68, Samba 104, Kishtwar 30, Poonch 91, Ramban 106 and Reasi 21. The Kerala High Court on Thursday acquitted two accused – Thadiyantevida Nazeer and Shafaz – in a case related to a twin bomb blast at the Kozhikode mofussil bus stand and at the KSRTC bus stand on March 3, 2006. The case was initially investigated by the local police and was taken over by the NIA in 2009. The Kerala High Court on Thursday allowed the appeals of Thadiyantevida Nazeer and Shafaz, thereby acquitting them. The Division Bench of Justice Vinod K. Chandran and Justice C. Jayachandran also declined the appeal filed by the NIA challenging the trial court’s order acquitting the accused in the case. The administration in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday airlifted two patients from snowbound Gurez valley to Bandipora for immediate medical relief, officials said. Officials at District Control Room Bandipora said that on the directions of DC, Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad, the two patients identified as Ruqaya Nusrat, Daughter of Muhammad Shafi of Sardab and Rupanee Begum, wife of Habib Sheikh of Sheikhpora requiring emergency treatment, were airlifted from Gurez valley. The officials said that the patients later were shifted to the hospital for special treatment.
