At Minus 12.0°C, Gulmarg Coldest Place In Kashmir; Fresh Snowfall In Pahalgam

Barring Srinagar and Qazigund, the minimum temperature stayed below freezing point in Kashmir Valley with the famous tourist resort of Gulmarg recording a low of minus 12.0°C on Friday, officials said. A meteorological department official here told GNS that Gulmarg had 1.6mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 0830 hours today even as it recorded a low of minus 12.0°C against minus 6.0°C on the previous night, he said. The temperature was 4.4°C below normal for this time of the year in the famous resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said. Srinagar, the summer capital of the J&K, had 4.8mm of rain while it recorded a low of 1.6°C against last night’s 0.6°C, he said. A central reserve police force (CRPF) trooper died of cardiac arrest at Srinagar airport on Friday morning. Sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a trooper identified as Deepak Dass who was posted at E/35 Batallion CRPF, Budgam died on Friday morning after he collapsed all of a sudden while performing his duty at Drop gate of Srinagar Airport. "Trooper posted outside drop gate Srinagar airport fell unconscious and was shifted to BSF hospital RTC camp ,where doctors declared him brought dead," they said. An official said that the further investigation into the matter has been started and body of trooper will be sent to his hometown after legal formalities—(KNO)

JK reports 1982 new Covid-19 cases, lowest in 20 days

Jammu and Kashmir reported 1982 fresh covid-19 cases, lowest in 20 days, even as seven persons succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said. Official sources told GNS that 694 cases were from Jammu Division and 1288 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall infection tally to 442462. Regarding the fresh fatalities, the officials told GNS that five among them were reported from Jammu division and two from Kashmir valley. So far 4699 people have died due to the virus—2299 in Jammu and 2400 in Kashmir Valley. ‘Oral cancers likely to increase, curb cancer rate by changing lifestyle’ Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide while the cases of disease are exponentially increasing in J&K. Officials said that in the last three years (2019 to 2021) the UT has reported 39,041 cancer cases and around 22,000 persons have died in UT in three years from 2018-20. At least six people are feared dead in a road accident in Keshwan area of District Kishtwar.
