J&K Reports 9 Covid-19 Deaths, 2751 Fresh Cases

Jammu and Kashmir reported 2751 covid-19 cases, up by 201 from yesterday, even as nine persons succumbed to the virus in the last 24-hours, officials said on Tuesday. They said 1105 of the fresh cases were confirmed from Jammu Division and 1646 from Kashmir Valley, taking the total count to 438176. Regarding the fresh fatalities, the officials told GNS that four among them were reported from Jammu division and five from Kashmir valley. So far 4683 people have died due to the virus—2289 in Jammu and 2394 in Kashmir Valley. Unknown persons threw acid on a 24-year-old girl in Safakadal area on Tuesday evening, officials said. They told GNS that the girl (name withheld), a resident of Eid Gah came under attack at Usmani Colony Wantpora. The girl, they said, has been evacuated from the site to SMHS Hospital for treatment. Pertinently, a day before a Class 4th employee identified as Muhammad Hussain Hafiz had suffered a heart attack while those accompanying him had alleged that the said employee died as doctors were absent from the hospital. In view of decline in Covid-19 cases since last few days, the authorities at SKIMS Soura have decided to resume OPD services from tomorrow. "In the interest of patient care and keeping in view plateauing of COVID wave in Kashmir, it is hereby ordered that the functioning of SKIMS OPD will resume from Wednesday i.e. 2nd February 2022," reads the order issued by Medical Superintendent SKIMS Farooq A Jan, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Kashmir University on Monday notified that all the pending and recently postponed examinations from February 14. In a notification issued by the Controller Examination, it was informed that the University is contemplating to conduct the postponed/planned examinations of Professional (MBBS, BUMS, B.Tech, M.Tech, etc) and Non-Professional (M.A Distance Mode, UG 4th Semester, etc) courses from February 14 onwards, through Offline Mode.
