Relief for Waheed Para: Supreme Court sets aside JK High Court order

In an appeal to the Apex Court by Attorney of Waheed Para for access to the statements of witnesses, the Supreme Court sets aside the high court order which had earlier deprived the protected witness statements. Earlier Jammu Kashmir High Court had denied Waheed Para the witness statements for conducting his trial before special NIA Court Srinagar. The High Court had stayed the trial court order that had directed prosecution to provide Waheed Para witnesses statements of protected witness after expunging identity of protected witnesses, for effective defence of the case. Delimitation Panel rejects suggestions to Include Shopian, Exclude Poonch Rajouri in Anantnag Lok Sabha seat

The delimitation commission has accepted some suggestions and rejected others submitted by associate members including the BJP and the National Conference and redrawn some of its draft proposals. The associate members have been asked to submit their response by March 4 after which the final draft would be put in the public domain. The government has extended the term of the Delimitation Commission by two months and it has up to May 6 to submit its recommendations for delimitation of 90 Assembly constituencies in the union territory of Jammu Kashmir. Several persons injured in Pattan road mishap

Several persons were injured in a road mishap in Hanjivira area of Pattan in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. Reports reaching GNS said that a mini bus and an alto car collided in Hanjivira, resulting in injuries to several persons. Soon after a police team reached the spot and shifted the injured persons to Trauma Hospital Pattan. A police official confirming the incident to GNS said that it is not immediately known whether it was a collision or any other sort of accident. "We are ascertaining it", he said. (GNS)

Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in Lolab area of Kupwara district. A police spokesman in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Kupwara Police along with 28 RR has apprehended two individuals namely Rashid Ahmad Peer, son of Abdul Ahad Peer of Tekipora, Lolab and Adil Hussain Shah, son of Ghulam Muhammad Shah of Shat Muqam, Lolab in a joint operation in Lolab. “Both the individuals were indulged in anti-national activities and were planning to join militant ranks, in order to revive militancy in the area besides providing active support to militants, ” police said. A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar received 4.6mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours. The summer capital of J&K recorded a rise of 0.2°C in night temperature with mercury settling at 1.8°C against last night’s 1.6°C, he said. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, had 6.5 centimeters of fresh snowfall during the time and recorded a low of minus 0.2°C against 0.6°C on the previous night, he said. Man injured after shooting stones hit truck in Ramban

A man was injured on Saturday when ‘shooting stone’ hit his truck on the Jammu—Srinagar national highway in Ramban district of Jammu region.
