Minor dies after falling into pit in Kupwara

A 2-year-old boy died after falling into a pit in Batergam in north Kashmir's Kupwara district this afternoon. Reports reaching GNS said that a child namely Sabzar Ahmad Shiekh son of Fayaz Ahmad Shiekh, a resident of Shiekh Mohalla Batergam fell into a pit whereupon he was rescued by locals and taken to Sub-district hospital Kupwara for treatment. The doctors however after initial assessment declared the boy as brought dead on arrival. A police official concerned has also confirmed the incident to GNS. (GNS)

Four residential houses were gutted in a pre-dawn fire at Ganai Mohalla area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday. An official of fire and emergency department told GNS that soon after receiving the information about the blaze, fire engines were rushed to the area. Four houses, one of them three-storey and others two-storey, were damaged in the blaze which was contained after hectic efforts. One personnel of the department, Gulzar Ahmad, was also injured while dousing the flames, the official said.
