Body of missing teenage girl from Srinagar recovered from Jhelum

The body of a missing teenage girl was recovered from river Jhelum at the Chreshbal area of Mujgund on Wednesday morning. Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a 17-year-old girl (name withheld) from Rainawari area of Srinagar had allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a river Jhelum from Cement Kadal Qamarwari on 23rd March. They said that the family had lodged a missing report on the same day at PS Rainawari. Meanwhile, river police Srinagar and SDRF had launched a rescue operation to retrieve the body. Meanwhile, SDRF team and river police have retrieved the body of the  teenage girl from river Jhelum in the Chreshbal area of Mujgund and the body has been taken to a nearby hospital for legal medico formalities—(KNO)

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated on Tuesday that ‘Shaadi Mahals’ which have been established for conducting the marriages of the poor people belonging to the minority communities would be closed. He also clarified that there is no proposal to stop scholarships for students from such communities. Replying in the Legislative Council to a question in this regard by the opposition Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad, Bommai clarified that there was an attempt made earlier to stop scholarships of school children and for higher education. But, nothing will be stopped, he assured. 8 shops gutted in midnight blaze at Zaina Kadal

At least eight shops were damaged in a midnight blaze at Gadyar area of Zainakadal in Srinagar. Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the fire broke out at Gadyar Zainakadal at around 01 am in the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday. In the incident, five shops were gutted completely while three shops suffered partial damage, they said. Locals said the firemen arrived on time and tried to douse the flames, however, by the time they arrived, eight shops had already been engulfed in flames. Nonetheless, no loss of life or injury was reported in the incident and the cause of the fire is being ascertained—(KNO)
