Police detain NGO staff for conducting ‘eye-care’ tests without ‘permission’

Police seized the equipment and other devices of an alleged NGO ‘Vision Spring’ that was seen conducting eye-care tests on people after collecting their identity cards. The alleged NGO is from outside Kashmir and had erected a tent at Taxi Stand-2 in the heart of Srinagar city. The people part of the alleged NGO ‘Vision Spring’ claimed that they offer eye screening, primary eye-care services to people free of cost. The alleged NGO was demanding identity cards, particularly Adhar Cards from the people willing to go for eye screening. Mehran Bhat As the elections in four states concluded the fuel prices have soared across India, with petrol prices crossing the 100 rupee mark in New Delhi. On Tuesday, India registered the seventh hike in fuel prices in eight days. The petrol prices were hiked by 80 Paise per litre taking the total hike in the past eight days to Rs 4.80. On March 21, the petrol prices in Srinagar stood at 100.36 and on 29 March, the petrol prices have climbed to ₹105.24 a litre. Diesel in Srinagar is being sold at ₹88.60 a litre causing anguish among the transporters who are already planning a strike on March 30 to press for various demands.

Former Minister and former legislator from Kupwara, Ghulam Qadir Mir has passed away on the night intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at his residence in Friends Enclave Srinagar.
