Government hikes price of essential medicines including Paracetamol by 10.7 per cent

The Government of India has announced a 10.7 percent increase in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the calendar year 2021 over the corresponding period in 2020. The prices of nearly 800 scheduled medicines on the National List of Essential Medicines, which are used to treat the majority of common ailments, will rise by 10.7 percent starting from April 1, 2022, PTI reported. "Based on the WPI data provided by the office of the Economic Advisor, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the annual change in WPI works out as 10.76607% during the calendar year 2021 over the corresponding period in 2020," the NPPA notice said. A municipal school in North Delhi has been renamed after Tika Lal Taploo, a Kashmiri Pandit who was shot dead 33 years ago in Srinagar. A program was organized by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on Sunday attended by Union Minister Jitendra Singh was present as the chief guest. NDMC Education Committee head Dr. Alok Sharma said that the name of 'NDMC Primary School 7-B' located in Sector-7 of Rohini has been changed to 'Shaheed Teeka Lal Taplu'. One person was killed while 56 passengers were injured in a road accident at Lam area of Nowshera sub division of Rajouri.
