Shawal Moon not sighted in Saudi, Eid u Fitr on Monday

The Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, April 30, hence Eid Al Fitr will be on Monday, May 2, according to authorities. Tomorrow, May 1, will be the last day of Ramadan. Eid Al Fitr is marked on the first day of Shawwal - the month that comes after Ramadan in the Hijri calendar. Meanwhile, the UAE moon sighting committee is also set to make their official announcement.

Long before the firstly commonly known uprising of 1931, at least 28 Kashmiris were shot dead by Dogra forces on April 29, 1865, when they were protesting against the cruel taxation by the government. In 1865 around 125 thousand people were involved in the shawl industry. These included weavers, washer men, and skilled laborers having the know-how of printing. The industry generated more than Rs 50 lakhs annually. In that year, shawls worth 254 thousand British Pounds were exported from Kashmir. Veteran Journalist Zaheer u Din states that despite the hard work of the weavers most of them made around Rs 5 to 7 every month and that too after working 16-18 hours a day. Pickpockets steal cash-filled purse of a woman in Srinagar

Pickpockets stole a purse of a woman while traveling in public transport from Dalgate to Lal Chowk Srinagar. Rafia Rashid, a government employee told news agency Kashmir News Trust that she was travelling in a Tata mini-bus where the pickpockets stole her purse. “The purse was in my bag. I was shocked to see a bag without purse when I opened it after alighting from the vehicle. The purse contained Rs 30,000, ATM cards, an employee card, a credit card, and the keys of the locker,” she said. Rafia added that before boarding the vehicle, she had checked her bag and the purse was present there. “It is the work of some pickpockets and I don’t think I will get it back,” she said. (KNT)

Jammu Kashmir Bank customers failed to make transactions as majority of the ATMs of the bank were out of order on Saturday. Jammu Kashmir Bank faces frequent snags in its mpay application, but today, it faced an outage at almost every ATM just ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. Scores of customers were seen waiting outside the ATMs on Residency Road in Srinagar. Customers left disappointed as they failed to make any transactions. “I was here to withdraw the cash, but the ATM didn’t work. Army trooper killed, 2 injured in Ganderbal road accident

An army soldier was killed and two others injured when an army vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident at Gadribal Ganiwan area of Central Kashmir's Ganderbal on Saturday. Official sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the army bus was vehicle part of a convoy that turned turtle near Masjid Mode Sumbal Bala Gund area of Kangan. Hundreds of home-bound patients especially patients suffering from chronic diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma and heart related issues who survive on oxygen concentrators are suffering as in absence of electricity they are unable to run these concentrators which in turn deteriorates the condition of patient.
