Kupwara police files chargesheet against 9 accused in ‘narco-terrorism’ case

Police on Saturday filed a charge sheet against nine accused persons in a ‘narco-terrorism’ case, related to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition and narcotics in Karnah area of Kupwara district last year. “The charge sheet was filed in the Special NIA Court Baramulla against the six arrested accused and their three handlers presently based in Pakistan [administered] Kashmir. A gang of boys attacked a youth in Sopore town last evening, causing severe injuries to him, even as police have arrested two accused so far. An official said that “gangsters” on Friday evening attacked a youth at New Colony when he was on way towards his home, leaving him severely injured. He said that the injured namely as Afreed Muzzafar Shah son of Mohammad Muzzafar Shah of Nehrpora, AP Shalimar colony, Sopore, was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment. Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid (AAJ) Srinagar has announced that "as per the Islamic tradition" Eid-ul-Fitr prayers would be offered at the historic Eidgah in Srinagar at 9:30 am. The Anjuman urged the people to participate in the Ijtima in large numbers to express unity and maintain discipline. "In case of Rain or bad weather Eid namaaz will be offered at historic Jamia Masjid. The timings for Namaaz will remain the same," Anjuman said. Army major among 3 soldiers injured in mine blast along LoC in Poonch

An army major was among three soldiers injured in a mine blast near the Line of Control in Mendhar area of Poonch district on Friday. Official sources told GNS that during a routine patrol along the LoC in the Krishnaghati Sector, there was a mine blast due to which three army personnel suffered injuries. “They have been suitably evacuated and are undergoing treatment,” an army officer said. Sources said that the blast took place at around 1330 hours after the soldiers accidentally stepped into the land mine, injuring Major Gurung, Naib Subedar Dalbir and Havaldar Hukum.
