Stones were hurled and swords were brandished as two groups clashed near Kali Mata temple in Patiala, Punjab on Friday. The incident happened when the Shiv Sena was carrying out a march, under the supervision of Punjab Shiv Sena working president Harish Singla, against Khalistani groups in Patiala. With 106 internet bans across the country in the year 2021, India for the fourth consecutive year has topped the list of countries banning internet to its citizens. According to a new report released Access Now- a Digital rights advocacy group governments around the gloe have shut the internet at least 182 times in total in 34 countries. Myanmar imposed the highest total number of shutdowns after India, with 15 disruptions, Sudan and Iran shut the internet five times each, the report adds. Atleast seven people were injured in a road accident on the historic Mughal road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday. In order to meet the increasing electricity demand in Jammu & Kashmir, the Union Government has allocated 207 MW additional Power to the Union Territory. Principal Secretary, to the Lt Governor & PDD, Shri Nitishwar Kumar said that the order issued by the Union Ministry of Power will substantially increase the availability of power in J&K. Pertinently, the Union Government has allocated additional power from the unallocated quota of Central Generating Stations of Northern Region Pool to Jammu & Kashmir. The order in this regard will come into the effect from midnight and the UT is expected to receive the additional supply by tomorrow. Seven months after detention, JK High Court quashes Budgam Carpenter’s PSA

Jammu Kashmir High Court Thursday quashed the detention of a carpenter from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district under the contentious Public Safety Act (PSA). Court sources informed news agency Kashmir News Trust that the detention of Javaid Ahmed Mir son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Gotapora Narbal Budgam was quashed by the court on Thursday, nearly seven months after he was arrested on charges of alleged stone-pelting in October 2021 and simultaneously booked under the PSA. Justice Vinod Chaterji Koul after hearing the arguments of Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak, who represented the accused quashed his detention under the Public Safety Act and directed authorities to release him from Sub-Jail Kupwara where he is presently lodged.
