Week after ouster of MC President Baramulla, 6 councilors join BJP

A week after Towseef Ahmad Raina was removed from the post of President Municipal Council Baramulla after losing a non-confidence motion, at least six councilors on Tuesday joined Bhartiya Janata Party. The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has learned that the joining function was held at Dak Bungalow Baramulla, in presence of union home minister Dr Jitendra Singh and senior BJP leader Anwar Khan. The six councilors who have joined the saffron party include Mudasir Ahmad Tantray, Fareeda Begum, Jasbir Kaur, Gurpreet Singh Bali, and Ghulam Rasool Malik. The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed concern at state governments for not doing enough to prevent hate speeches, as it grilled the Uttarakhand government on a proposed Dharam Sansad in Roorkee. The top court noted that governments say they are taking preventive measures, but something different happens on the ground as incidents of hate speeches keep occurring, despite the apex court’s guidelines on preventive measures. Danishwar Hameed A bus of  CRPF's 18 BN was attacked in the Brazloo area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday afternoon. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that suspected militants hurled a grenade and fired a few shots at a CRPF vehicle in the Brazloo area of Kulgam, however there are no immediate reports of injuries. The Forces have reached the spot and launched a search operation to nab the attackers.

Suhail Dar Two persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly selling dead chicken in the Kadipora area of Anantnag town of south Kashmir. The incident came to the limelight when locals spotted a local chicken seller slaughtering a dead chicken to which he objected and the shopper duly apologized. Police officials told The Kashmiriyat that a shopkeeper was arrested in the Gajnag Kadipora area of Anantnag town, adding, that the shop has been locked down. Further investigations have been launched into the incident, he said.

At least seven CRPF troopers sustained injuries in a road accident at Sofipora area of Zainpora in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday, official said. An official told new agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that road accident took place at Sofipora area of Zainapora village between CRPF vehicle and a speeding truck, in which several CRPF men sustained injuries. Militants made a failed attempt to snatch rifle of a paramilitary CRPF personnel in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said. They said that the militants threw chilly powder into his eyes of the paramilitary trooper while he was performing duty at the gate of Kashmiri Pandit at Reshibazar Anantnag. The Delimitation Commission in Jammu Kashmir is likely to submit full and final report in the month end after it received more than 400 recommendations to its draft proposal.
