Jammu and Kashmir Police Sunday said two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter in the Devsar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district. A senior police officer told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that two militants including foreigner belonging to LeT militant outfit were killed in an encounter with security forces at Cheyan area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district. He said that the operation was launched by security forces including Police, Army's 9 RR and CRPF in Cheyan area of Devsar after specific information about the presence of militants. Two persons were arrested for allegedly attacking army personnel who was on leave at his home in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday. The prime accused, Gangandeep Singh of Darrah village of Poonch and Simranjeet Singh of Pind-Chatha in Jammu, were arrested during investigation of the assault case, a police official said. He said the soldier was attacked by some unknown persons with sharp edged weapons at his home in Poonch town on May 4, causing serious injuries to him. Weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather over Jammu and Kashmir even as night temperature recorded an increase on Sunday. A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 12.8°C against 9.8°C on the previous night. The temperature, he said, was 2.1°C above normal during this time of the year for the summer capital. Qazigund recorded a low of 9.4°C against 7.8°C on the previous night. At least nine residential houses were damaged in a massive fire in the old Town locality of this North Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said on Saturday leaving 14 families homeless. Pakistani Haider and a local militant of Lashkar-i-Taiba are trapped in an ongoing encounter at the Devsar area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday, officials said. Quoting Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar, the Kashmir Police Zone wrote on Twitter, "01 Pakistani militants (Haider) of LeT terror outfit & a local terrorist trapped in on-going encounter. A court in Reasi has ordered lodging of FIR against at least seven policemen following a complaint against them by a local. As per the complainant Prem Singh, the accused along with others surrounded his kacha house and tin shed from all the corners on 19 September last year. Four residential houses damaged in devastating fire incident in Baramulla

At least four residential houses were damaged in a devastating fire that broke out in old town Baramulla in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday afternoon. Official sources said that a team of police and fire officials reached the spot soon after getting the information. They said that fire started in a residential house and engulfed at least three others in no time. When this report was filed, the flames were brought under control by fire and emergency department with the help of police and locals. A fire and emergency department told GNS that 8 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Reason for fire was not immediately known and is being investigated, officials said.
