Sidhu Moosewala shot dead in Panjab

Famous Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has been reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen in Mansa district of Panjab. Sidhu was shot dead at his native in Mansa district just a day after Punjab Police withdrew the security of 424 people, including that of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Reports received by The Kashmiriyat said that unknown persons fired bullets at the car in which Sidhu Moosewala was traveling with two others. Encounter breaks out in Pulwama area

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces at the Gundipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat  that on Sunday afternoon, a joint group of 55 RR  and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the area launched a cordon and search operation. During the cordon, the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. 2-3 militants are beleived to be trapped in the area Meanwhile,Kashmir Police Zone in a tweet confirmed the encounter. “#On the specific input of #KulgamPolice, #encounter has started at #Gundipora area of #Pulwama. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” they tweeted.

Yasin Malik Verdict: 19 people arrested so far on charges of ‘stone pelting, sloganeering’

Nineteen people have been arrested from Srinagar's Maisuma and its adjoining areas after protests hit the area on Wednesday following the verdict of Mohamed Yasin Malik, Police said. Earlier ten youth had been arrested during raids conducted in the Maisuma locality, a few hours after protests erupted in the area after a court in New Delhi sentenced Yasin Malik to life imprisonment. LG Manoj Sinha visits houses of Slain Policeman, TV actress Amreen Bhat

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday visited the house of TV artist Amreena Bhat, who was shot dead at her residence in Hushru village of Chadoora on last Wednesday. A top official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that Sinha accompanied by senior officials met Amreena's family at Hushru in Chadoora area of Budgam district and expressed his condolences to his parents and the family. Amreena Bhat from Hushroo Chadoora along with her 10-year-old nephew were fired upon by the gunmen, leaving them wounded. However, Ambreena succumbed to her injuries on way to the SMHS hospital. Hailstorm causes massive damage to crops in north Kashmir areas

The hailstorm coupled with gusty winds and heavy rainfall damaged crops in several areas in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. The apple orchards, paddy fields, and cherry crops were affected in several areas of Boniyar Tehsil in north Kashmir on Sunday afternoon. Heavy hailstorms and heavy rains that continued for almost five minutes caused heavy losses to the apple crop and other fruit crops, thereby putting farmers in distress. Meanwhile, the farmers here have appealed to the administration to provide them compensation.

A fresh survey has revealed that at six percent Jammu Kashmir has the lowest child marriages. Six percent of women from Jammu Kashmir have been married before reaching the legal minimum age of 18, National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) has revealed. In India, around 25 percent of women have got married before the legal minimum age of marriage of 18 years. The legal age of marriage for women is 18 and 21 for men in the country. At 35%, Jharkhand has reported the highest number of child marriages of women.

Admin asks shops in Anantnag to shut down once a week

Shoppers in Anantnag have been mandated by the local administration to keep their shops shut once a week. According to an order by Assistant Labour Commissioner Anantnag, accessed by The Kashmiriyat, the shoppers in the south Kashmir district to close their Shop/Establishment on Sundays or Fridays. "The owners of shop/establishment who have opted Sunday as weekly close day are hereby directed to keep their shop/establishment close on Sundays and similarly the owners who have opted Friday as s close day shall remain closed on Fridays, anybody violates this order shall be dealt as per law," the official order read.
