Shopkeepers at Forest Lane of Srinagar city Thursday claimed that burglars looted ready-made garments worth lakhs from the three shops during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Police rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. A tourist guide is feared dead while 11 sightseers and two other guides are trapped near banks of Tarsar Lake in south Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday. Official sources told GNS that a group of 14 people including 11 tourists and three guides –Mohammad Ishaq Lone, Tariq Ahmad, both residents of Pahalgam, and Shakeel Ahmad of Gagangeer Ganderbal were on sightseeing near Tarser Lake. One of the guides, Shakeel Ahmad is feared drowned in the lake, they said. “The other people are stuck near the bank of the river,” they said. The death toll in the in Afghanistan has rose to 920 people officials said, adding that 600 people are injured. The quake struck about 44 km (27 miles) from the city of Khost, near the Pakistani border, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGC) said. Most of the confirmed deaths were in the eastern Afghan province of Paktika, where 255 people had been killed and more than 200 injured, said interior ministry official Salahuddin Ayubi. In Khost province, 25 people had been killed and 90 taken to hospital, he said. The state-run Bakhtar news agency reported the death toll and said rescuers were arriving by helicopter. Teams constituted to evacuate trapper families in high altitudes of Kounsarnag

A number of migratory families have been stuck in the high altitudes of South Kashmir’s Kulgam while authorities have dispatched rescue teams to evacuate them. The families have been trapped after the inclement weather in the high altitudes of Kounsarnag. Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Dr Bilal said that he received distress calls from migratory families stuck in high altitude Kausarnag in Kulgam and accordingly teams were constituted and sent with necessary relief materials including blankets, and waterproof covers, and food items.
