The Jammu Kashmir administration on Monday issued a formal order for the creation of 252 posts in different categories for the establishment of the State Investigation Agency (SIA). “Sanction is hereby accorded to the creation of following 252 (Two Hundred Fifty Two) posts in different categories for the establishment of State Investigation Agency (SIA),” reads an order issued by Financial Commissioner/ Additional Chief Secretary, Home, R.K. Goyal , a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The posts include one Deputy Inspector General of Police, three Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), three Superintendent of Police (SP)—(KNO)

Class 10th student goes missing in Srinagar, Family seeks whereabouts

A 16-year-old teenager has gone missing since yesterday after he went for tuition in central Kashmir's Srinagar district. The teenager has been identified as Suhail Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Ahmed Mir, a resident of Dalipora Kawdara Srinagar. Suhail's brother speaking to The Kashmiriyat over the phone said that Suhail, who is a class 10th student went for Tuition at around 2pm but didn't return home. "We have filed a missing report in Nowhatta police station after being unable to trace him anywhere. We asked his friends and relatives also but found no clue of him," brother of Suhail said. Non-local worker hangs himself to death in Srinagar

A non-local worker from Haryana hung himself to death in a rented room in the Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar city. Local sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the house owner informed police station Saddar after they found the non-local tenant hanging from the ceiling. Police reached the spot and shifted the body to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for postmortem. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Manoj Singh son of Gulzari Singh, a resident of Fazalpora Haryana. A police official while confirming the incident said that proceedings have been initiated in this regard. (KNT)

Two militants were killed during an encounter in the Tujan area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said on Tuesday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operations in the area. He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. He said during the exchange of fire, two militants were killed while the operation is on in the area. The Jammu Kashmir Police on Monday said they have booked social media news group 'The Real Kashmir' for spreading fake news on social media. In a statement issued to GNS, the police said that Shopian police registered FIR under relevant sections of law against the handler of Facebook news portal THE REAL KASHMIR NEWS for spreading fake and and baseless news with the intention to mislead the general public about the Chandigam Lolab encounter and investigation has been set into motion. The spokesman further said that general public is once again requested not to pay heed towards these rumours and legal action will be taken against those spreading fake and baseless information on the social media.(GNS)

The Kashmir valley is losing agricultural land and its wetlands that too at a very fast pace due to swiftly expanding urbanization and faulty land use. According to official statistics, the valley loses an average of 1375 hectares of agricultural land per year as a result of the rapid development of commercial infrastructure, brickyards, residential districts, and commercial complexes. According to the Department of Agriculture, the region has lost 22,000 hectares of farmland in the last 16 years. The arable land declined from 165,000 hectares in 1996 to 143,000 hectares in 2012, according to the department's report, Agriculture's contribution to the region's gross domestic product has fallen by 11% in the last 12 years. The films directed by the students of the Department of Mass Media, GDC Baramulla titled 'Schizophrenia' bagged the first and the film 'Khatay Angoor' was chosen ass the runner-up among the seventy entries from various states of India.
