Man allegedly stabs mother-in-law in Srinagar’s Rambagh

A man was arrested Monday on the charges of stabbing his mother-in-law in the Srinagar district of Central Kashmir. Official sources said that the Jammu Kashmir Police arrested one Jasir Ahmad Gada of Batmaloo for allegedly stabbing his mother-in-law in Rambagh area of Srinagar. The mother-in-law was critically wounded in the attack, after which she was rushed to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital in Srinagar, they said, The Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law including attempt to murder in Sadar Police station, Srinagar. The condition of the woman is stated to be critical at the hospital.

Admin terminates services of 112 doctors in Jammu Kashmir

The Jammu Kashmir administration on Monday ordered the termination of services of 112 doctors for "unauthorized" absence from their duties. According to separate orders by Health & Medical Education Department, those terminated from the services include medical officers, Consultant Surgeons and B-Grade Specialists. Amid the controversy over Hijab in the south Indian state of Karnataka, A Muslim girl, Ilham has secured the second position in the state's recently concluded PU exams. Ilham, a PCMB science student of St Aloysius PU College Mangalore secured 597 out of 600 & became State's Second Topper in Science Stream. Elated over the results, Ilham said "I used to plan my studies and was studying daily." Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the locals said that the area lacks all basic facilities including water, sanitation, roads, but the officials want to install 'smart meters' here in the area. "They should avail us quality water, good roads and schools before installing the smart meters," a local resident said. Out of 68, South Kashmir witnesses 43 gunfights in the ongoing year

In the ongoing year, Kashmir witnessed 68 gunfights between militants and joint forces. Out of these, 43 gunfights alone raged in four districts of South Kashmir, viz, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Anantnag. Central Kashmir witnessed 13 while 12 gunfights raged in North Kashmir in the first half of the current year. The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that Pulwama district witnessed the maximum number of encounters that tally to 14, followed by 11 each in Shopian and Kulgam, Srinagar 10, Anantnag and Kupwara 7, Baramulla 3, Budgam and Bandipora 2 each while Ganderbal saw a solitary gunfight in the ongoing year. Kashmiri journalists Syed Shahriyar and Shahid Tantray have won the Human Rights and Religious Freedom Journalism Awards (HRRFJA) for the year 2022. Syed Shahriyar received the award for the ‘Best Photo Story on Human Rights and Religious Freedom’. While Shahid won the award for the ‘Best Video Story on Human Rights and Religious Freedom’. Two more militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Lolab area of Kupwara district taking the toll of slain militants in the encounter to four, police said monday. A senior police officer told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that two more militants were killed in the operation while incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered. He said the encounter started after the forces launched an operation in Lolab area of the north Kashmir on the instance of an arrested militant. "During the search of the hideouts, the hiding terrorists fired upon the force personnel who retaliated, in which two militants were killed," he said. Nocturnal encounter breaks out in Pulwama area

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Chatapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday night a joint group of RR,  CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in Chatpora area of Pulwama, launched a cordon and search operation. The hiding militants opened fire on the troopers during the cordon, triggering an encounter. 2-3 militants are believed to be trapped in the area. As per locals, intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on at the site of the encounter. Details emerging.
