Danishwar Hameed An encounter has started between militants and government forces in Gujjar Pora, DH Pora area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district. Official sources said that a joint team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Gujjar Pora. area of Kulgam's Damhal Hanjipora (DH Pora) belt on Sunday afternoon. As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. More details awaited

Former Chief Minister and President People's Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday paid rich and glowing tributes to renowned Islamic Scholar Mirwaiz of south Kashmir Qazi Nisar Ahmad on his 28th death anniversary. Qazi Nisar founder of Ummat-e-Islami, a socio-religious organization, was assassinated by gunmen on this day in 1994 at Dialgam in Anantnag. Mehbooba described Qazi Nisar as a renowned religious scholar and a mass leader who had dedicated his life to getting the state out of the cycle of chaos, uncertainty, and conflict. The Jammu Kashmir Police on Sunday said one militant identified as Showket Ahmed Sheikh was arrested in the Lolab area of Kupwara. POlice said that the Kupwara Police on Sunday launched a joint anti-militancy operation along with the Army's 28RR on the disclosure of an arrested militant Showket Ahmed Sheikh in Lolab area of Kupwara. During the search of hideouts, hiding militants fired upon joint search parties and our team also retaliated, in which one militant got killed, it said. 13-year-old cycle rider dies after hit by vehicle in Bandipora

13-year-old boy, riding a bicycle, was killed after being hit by a speeding car near Bazipora area along Srinagar-Bandipora highway. Reports reaching GNS said that one Mudasir Ahmad (alias Ayaan), son of Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Kanae Mohalla, Saderkote Bala of Bandipora was hit by a ‘Wagon R’, resulting in critical injuries to him. The teenager was subsequently evacuated to a nearby hospital, however he died on way. Confirming the incident, a police official told GNS that the accused has been arrested besides the vehicle involved in the incident also seized. “A case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections of law for further proceedings”, the official further said. Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three over ground workers (OGW) of Al-Badr militant outfit and recovered arms and ammunitions from them at Wagam crossing on highway in Kralgund area of Handwara. A 27-year-old youth on Saturday evening allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Arampora locality of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Farmers in Kashmir who were worried over the delay in paddy transplantation due to water shortage are happy to see the intermittent rainfall for the past two days.
