A police official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that two militants were killed in Hangalgund, Kokernag area of Anantnag where search operation is still going on while as two militants were killed in Mishipora-Kujjar area of Kulgam where search operation also continues. Officials conduct market checks in Kashmir, Say ‘No Shortage of petrol anywhere’

Taking stock of the "oil shortage" across the Kashmir valley, the Department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Thursday conducted several checks in the region. A top official of the Department speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the officials conducted several market checks in the south Kashmir districts and found there was no shortage of oil at all. The official ridiculed the allegations and said several petrol pumps had a shortage of oil, however, it was primarily due to the non-functioning of Jammu Kashmir Bank services. "During our day-long checks to scores of fuel stations, we did not find any shortage of fuel anywhere," the official said. The Department has asked people to not pay any heed to the rumors. The Bhartiya Janta party, as per stats, has failed to contain militant recruitment in Jammu Kashmir since it rose to power in 2014. Data available to The Kashmiriyat reveals that the Congress-led UPA government saw as many as 154 local youths taking up arms to join militant groups, however, the number has drastically risen to 1010 since 2014. In 2014, the number of locals joining militancy was 53, in 2015, it reached 66 before touching the highest mark of 88 in 2016, in 2017, the number rose further to 126 and in 2018, 218 local youth joined militancy, the highest number in a decade, while in 2019 the number dropped to 139. A Hizb militant has killed in a gunfight that broke out between militants and government forces at Hangalgund village Kokernag area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Thursday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area. He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. The Jammu Kashmir Police on Thursday said that it recovered 15 kilograms of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Armullah area of Pulwama district's Litter belt in south Kashmir. Officials said that Jammu Kashmir Police along with forces recovered 15 KGs of IED planted in Armullah area of Pulwama and arrested two persons accused involved in planting the IED.
